TRANSITIONING RESPONSIBLE ADULTS IN LIFE SKILLS
TRAILS is Royal Oak's Adult Transition Program for students with disabilities that require special education services beyond high school. Our students, ages 18-26, work on functional academics, community-based instruction, and work-site-based learning skills.
Some examples of activities students may explore would include:
- visiting the local grocery store
- preparing food in our kitchen weekly
- checking out books from the Royal Oak Library
- exploring other community locations
The program also visits a Royal Oak gym to take part in a community-based exercise program.
Work-based Learning Skills are another aspect of the TRAILS program. Our students work at area business locations to practice work readiness and vocational skills. In addition, students work daily on functional academics to help prepare them to live the most independent life possible.
